Waterloo Regional Police say a 44-year-old man was attacked at an Allen Street home in Waterloo around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived on scene, they found the man with severe head injuries. He was taken to Grand River Hospital by paramedics and is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

While police won't release what kind of weapons were used in the attack, Insp. Kevin Thaler says it wasn't a firearm or a knife.

"The men were arrested at the scene by patrol officers, and arrested for aggravated assault, they've been taken into custody and the investigation has been taken over by the homicide branch due to the serious nature of the injuries to the victim," Thaler told CTV.

Patrol officers from North Division arrested a 46-year-old man and a 19-year old at the scene. Both are in custody and facing charges.

Police say this was not a random attack, all three know each other. The two accused will be bail court Monday.
