The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called to investigate an early morning fire in New Hamburg.

Crews responded to the fire on Stier road around 2:00 a.m.

The fire prevention officer for the Wilmot Fire Department Andrew McMillan said  the home was empty and under construction.  

"Crews were faced with a fully involved structure fire and the adjacent home there was fire on the roof,"  said McMillan.

Crews were able to knock down the fire on the roof and save the adjacent home. 

Damage is estimated at $285,000.  The cause is still under investigation.
