For the first time in more than a decade, the parking rates in downtown Stratford are going up.

The city is raising the rate at downtown parking meters and pay-and-display machines to $1 per hour.

That’s a 150 per cent increase over the current rate of 40 cents per hour, which has been in place since 2005.

It is expected that the new rate will be in force in all affected areas by Monday.

Lots and times where parking is currently free are not affected by the rate change.
