Two people were transported to hospital after a collision between a bus and a pick up truck in Guelph.

Guelph police say on Sunday morning a truck was allegedly driving the wrong way down Farquhar Street, a one way street.

The truck did not stop at the intersection of Wyndham Street, and was hit by a Guelph Transit bus.

“At this point we’re not sure why the truck was traveling the wrong way on this street, and or why it continued through the intersection at this point,” said Sgt. David Doxey with Guelph Police Service.

The force of the collision caused the bus to come to rest on top of the truck.

The female driver of the truck was trapped for almost two hours while first responders and tow truck drivers used jacks and a hoist to stabilize the bus.

“We’re thankful for the timely care provided by our first responders at yesterday’s accident. We wish those involved in the collision a speedy and full recovery,” said Ann Pappert with the City of Guelph.

The truck driver was airlifted to Hamilton hospital. She has since been released.

The driver of the bus was taken to Guelph hospital with head injuries. He received five stitches, and tells CTV News he will be back at work by Thursday.

There was only one passenger on the bus at the time. He was checked by paramedics, and released.

The Ministry of Transportation was called in to investigate because a city bus was involved.

Police are still investigating. There is no word on if charges will be laid.

Wyndham Street is expected to be closed until late Sunday afternoon.
