The “most significant environmental issues” resulting from an oil spill in the Grand River have been addressed, the City of Kitchener says.

The spill was discovered in late April, in a section of the river in east Kitchener.

After several days, a towing company with a property on Forwell Road claimed responsibility for the spill.

It is believed that about half of an 800-litre barrel of used motor oil spilled into the river.

Tuesday, officials with the city of Kitchener said that crews had completed “substantial clean-up and remediation efforts” at the site.

The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change continues to investigate the spill.
