The City of Brantford has put out their proposed 2025 budget which includes a 4.36 per cent tax increase.

In a news release on Monday, the city said the recommended city services budget for next year comes in at $138,360,049. For the average homeowner, that translates to an extra $8.90 per month or $106.75 per year.

The 2025 budget has a 19.2 per cent increase for paramedic services, including the purchase of a new ambulance as demand grows for emergency services in the community.

During a public feedback campaign, the city also said the need to modernize the transit system and expand affordable housing options were key priorities.

The 4.36 per cent increase only covers the city’s portion of annual property taxes, which makes up approximately 65 per cent of the overall budget.

The budget has not yet passed. Council will meet again in January to finalize the tax rate.
