The seven-year-old boy whose fight with cancer brought his entire community together to hold an early Christmas celebration is now in a hospice.
Family members say Evan Leversage appears to be doing “relatively well” even as his health takes a turn for the worse.
“He’s content – extremely tired, but he’s happy still,” said cousin Ashley Agar.
“He doesn’t appear to be in any pain or discomfort, which is a small blessing.”
Hundreds of people turned out last month at a special Christmas celebration in Leversage’s home community of St. George.
One of his final wishes was to see his town lit up for the holiday – and with doctors concerned he might not survive that long, his neighbours put their lights up early and even brought in a snow machine to make that wish a reality.
Also on his bucket list were trips to a Toronto Maple Leafs game and Niagara falls, a meal at Chuck E. Cheese’s and a screening of ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ with his best friend.
Leversage has had an inoperable brain tumour since the age of two.
The tumour started to spread in recent weeks, significantly harming his prognosis.
In St. George, people said Tuesday that they were keeping Leversage in their thoughts.
“I just feel happy that we were able to come together for him before he took this turn,” said Brandy King, who helped organize the parade.
“At least he got to feel that joy of Christmas one last time.”
Family members say Leversage has been receiving Christmas cards and best wishes in the mail from all over the world, and has enjoyed reading them.
