A bone marrow match has been found for Katie Herron.

Herron, a four-year-old Cambridge girl, is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

It’s her second bout with cancer, and chemotherapy alone hasn’t proved effective.

Hundreds of people lined up last month at a stem cell clinic to see if their bone marrow would be a match for Herron or anyone else in need.

Sunday, Herron’s father Paul announced via Facebook that the family has been notified of a match with a 36-year-old male donor.

“We are so very thankful for this amazing gift, and are thrilled to be able to tell you that it is the best case scenario all around,” he said.

“Although this phase will be the most challenging, difficult and life-threatening part of Katie’s journey, we will for now just celebrate the fact Katie has a match.”

Doctors say the man’s bone marrow cells are as close to a perfect match for Herron as possible.

The transplant is expectd to take place March 26 at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
