Another 120 employees are being dismissed from BlackBerry’s local workforce.
The company says it is cutting that number of positions this week from its product development and wireless technology divisions, based in Waterloo.
“We recognize our local employees’ hard work on behalf of our company and the difficulty of this news,” the company says in a statement.
“We will do everything in our power to treat our employees with compassion, while offering support during this time of transition.”
Last fall, BlackBerry announced that it would shed 40 per cent of its global workforce through a ‘period of transition’.
Company officials say Monday’s announcement is part of those cuts, with the full 40 per cent of job reductions to be finalized by May.
