Frozen water pipes are causing significant issues in Arthur and Mount Forest.
In fact, the issues are so significant that residents of those communities have been asked to let a tap in their house run continuously until the middle of April.
“The cost of doing this is minimal, when compared against the expense incurred by the municipality to thaw frozen water lines,” a Township of Wellington North press release reads.
Township officials say anyone whose home is connected to the municipal water system should leave a tap running with a flow about as thick as a little finger, and temperatures inside homes should be kept at 8 C or above.
Township officials say their directive applies to approximately 2,800 homes.
As water billing in Wellington North is done on a fixed rate, it will be the township – and not the affected residents themselves – paying for the extra water usage.
Anyone seeing reduced water pressure is asked to run a tap at full strength and contact the township’s water and sewer department at 519-848-5327.
