A 21-year-old Kitchener woman is facing a number of charges after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.

Waterloo Regional Police say the series of events began around 1 a.m. Sunday, when officers tried to stop the vehicle on Westmount Road in Kitchener.

The driver allegedly refused to stop. Police said they chose not to pursue her because of a concern for public safety.

Moments later, officers learned that the vehicle in question had crashed into a utility pole at Westmount and Glasgow Street.

The woman faces charges including dangerous driving, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, trespassing, failure to stop for police, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended and drug possession.

Nobody was injured during the incident, police said.

By later Sunday morning, the pole had been removed from the area.
