Two buildings in downtown Kitchener were evacuated for about an hour Tuesday morning due to a pair of suspicious packages.

The packages were left in front of the buildings at 73 and 77 Queen Street North, both of which were evacuated as the investigation commenced.

A police bomb squad was brought to the site and ultimately found that the packages contained garbage.

Waterloo Regional Police say they do not believe there was any malicious intent in the leaving of the packages.

Around 10 a.m., people were allowed to return into the two buildings.
