A 19-year-old University of Waterloo student was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while crossing University Avenue, police say.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, the teen was hit Friday night, while crossing University at Phillip Street.

He was hurt seriously enough that he was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital for specialized medical treatment.

The driver of the car, a 22-year-old man who also attends Waterloo, was not hurt.

Police say they have spoken to a number of witnesses, but want to hear from anyone else who witnessed the collision.

No charges have been laid.
