The Brantford Fire Department says residents can return home after a gas leak scare earlier in the evening.

People living in the Holmdale neighbourhood were asked to leave the area, following a natural gas leak on Grand River Avenue.

A paving company was scraping down the old asphalt on a road and hit a gas line. After the area was evacuated, crews were called in to shut down and repair the line.

Buses were also set up as temporary shelters during the evacuation.

Brantford Fire are helping people to return to their homes, and are asking anyone with concerns to contact police.
