The Ontario government is providing up to $7.6 million to help Everest College students complete their education.

Everest College closed its 14 private career schools in Ontario last month, including its campus in downtown Kitchener, after the province suspended its operating licence. The closure affected approximately 2,700 students.

The funding will allow students to finish their training at a different school without having to pay additionaltuition. Tuition refunds will be provided to students who are unable to complete their training, or choose not to.

“Our government’s number one priority throughout this process has been the well-being of affected students,” said Reza Moridi, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.

“We know that students just want to get back to their studies and they can be reassured that this special, non-repayable grant will help cover the costs associated with their new training opportunity.”

The government is also limiting Everest students’ OSAP debt. The debt for a two term academic year will be capped at $7,300, or $10,950 for three terms.

The province says it’s yet to find alternate training arrangements for 14 per cent of Everest students.
