The Electrical Safety Authority returned to a Waterloo apartment building Thursday, ruling that four of five apartments where power was disconnected last week are now safe for habitation.

ESA inspectors ordered the power shut off to five units at 154 Erb Street East last week, due to severe water damage to their electrical systems.

The problems with the units actually stretched back to last winter, when a leak was discovered in the building’s roof.

Jim Barry, Waterloo’s director of municipal enforcement, says work and testing has been ongoing at the complex since the first inspection.

“We’re in a better place than we were last week,” he said.

“With any luck, over the next little while all the work will be completed.”

The unit that remains without electricity was vacant prior to last week’s inspection.

According to the ESA, it is in need of further repair work.
