Seven Canadian soldiers were taken to hospital following a collision between two military vehicles.

Grey County OPP say they were called to the scene of the crash, on Highway 26 between 3rd Line and the Town of Blue Mountains-Meaford Townline, around 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, two armoured fighting vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 26 when the vehicle in front stopped, at which point the second vehicle crashed into it from behind.

A Ministry of Environment crew was called in due to approximately 300 litres of diesel fuel spilling on the roadway.

Injuries suffered by seven soldiers are described as non-life-threatening.

Police say both vehicles received extensive damage.

Highway 26 was closed for the rest of Thursday morning.
