A massive fire has gutted two Windsor businesses.

The fire broke out around 8:00 on Monday morning and ripped through the Le Chef Restaurant and Downtown Auto Service on Wyandotte St East.

Fire crews battled the fierce flames for several hours. No one was injured.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in but the investigation into what caused the fire has been put on hold.

“The fire seemed to be at the rear portion of the building upon our arrival. There was heavy smoke and fire in the auto shop. It spread through pretty much the entire building up to the restaurant and into the second floor,” says John Lee, Fire Prevention Officer.

The Ministry of Environment has also been called in to the monitor the air quality. Residents in the area were told to close their windows and shelter in place until they were given the all clear.
