Waterloo Regional Police have arrested and charged a 46 year-old man, after an attack on a dog and his owner.

The incident happened on Blair trail in Cambridge, Friday night. Police say a 55 year-old-victim was walking his dog off leash when, his dog and another dog attacked each other.

While the two dogs were fighting, the 46-year-old accused, stabbed the victims’ dog and struck the owner. Both were treated for lacerations. The owner was released but police say they are unsure whether or not the dog will survive.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon and cruelty to animals.

He has been released on a promise to appear. For now police say they are not releasing the name of the accused.
