Police are crediting a quick thinking citizen with the arrest of a 19-year-old man after he went on a vandalism spree in Kitchener.

At around 8:30 Tuesday evening, police say the man was using a metal bar to smash the windows of cars in a parking lot on Belmont Avenue.

“When the incident first occurred, a gentleman who was in the complex identified this male, observed his behaviour and followed that male until he was arrested by police, so we’d like to thank him for his continued support and for calling us when he identified the behaviour,” said Sgt Michael Haffner with Waterloo Regional Police Services.

Police believe there could be more damaged vehicles they are not aware of.

“If people do identify that their vehicle was damaged and believe that it would be from a metal bar or new damage please call police and we can investigate as well,” Haffner said.

Matthew Bulmer is facing twelve charges including nine counts of mischief, assaulting an officer, uttering threats and a weapons charge. He is being held for a bail hearing on December 29th.
