The last day of August will be Bryan Larkin’s first as chief of Waterloo Regional Police

The region’s police board announced Tuesday that Aug. 31 will be the day Larkin officially takes over command of the organization.

It’s not clear when Larkin’s last day as chief of the Guelph Police Service will be, but police board chair Tom Galloway said in a media release that the board’s Guelph counterparts were willing to release him from his duties earlier than they expected.

“The members of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board and I look forward to his arrival and wish him every success in his new responsibilities,” Galloway said in the release.

It was announced last week that Larkin would leave Guelph for Waterloo Region, where he spent the first 20 years of his policing career.

Dep. Chief Stephen Beckett will remain acting chief in Waterloo Region until Larkin’s arrival, as he has since Matt Torigian left the organization in June.
