Residents and experts gathered in Kitchener on Thursday to discuss energy use now and in the future.

The goal of the public workshop is to find out what projects are important to the community and to identify the projects that could be realistically implemented.

David Roewade, sustainability specialist with the Region of Waterloo, says his team is turning to the public to help find ways the region could save money and energy and also reduce emissions.

Roewade says once they gather input they will figure out a timeline to implement the projects and complete a financial analysis.

The team hopes to have a draft Community Energy Strategy ready to present to councils by spring 2017.

Thursday’s event was hosted by the region, the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, and the region’s five electricity and natural gas utilities.
