It may not have been the hottest day of the year, but it may turn out to be warmer than anything else we’ll see in 2014.

Temperatures peaked Tuesday afternoon at 29 C at Region of Waterloo International Airport. That’s the same high as was measured in Guelph, while Mount Forest topped out at 28 C and Goderich at 26 C.

Still, humidex values made things feel more like the upper 30s during the day – even reaching 40 in Windsor and Sarnia.

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly overnight, bottoming out at 13 C in Waterloo-Wellington and Huron-Perth.

Oxford-Brant will be slightly less affected, seeing temperatures slip to 15 C overnight and rebounding to 24 C on Wednesday.

A 40 per cent chance of showers and risk of a severe thunderstorm will persist into the overnight hours across our viewing area.

In both Waterloo-Wellington and Huron-Perth, forecast highs for the rest of the work week are 22 C, 22 C and 25 C, but Friday will also bring with it a strong chance of rain.

Things will be even cooler in Grey-Bruce, where Wednesday’s forecast high is 19 C – followed by 20 C on Thursday and 25 C on Friday.
