A 25-year-old woman suffered what police are calling “major” injuries when the car was involved in a head-on crash on Line 86.

Emergency crews were called to the crash site, between Road 167 and Road 171 west of Listowel, around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, the woman’s car was eastbound on Line 86 when she noticed a westbound pickup truck on the westbound side of the road.

Police say the woman drove her car onto the shoulder and then back onto the roadway, but overcompensated and ended up heading for the westbound lane.

The driver of the pickup truck moved into the eastbound lane in an attempt to avoid the car, but the two vehicles ended up colliding head-on as the car also moved into the eastbound lane.

The impact left the driver of the car, a North Huron resident, trapped in her car. After she was removed by emergency crews, she was taken to a hospital in London.

The Cambridge man driving the pickup truck was taken to hospital with less significant injuries, and released later in the day.

Police say they’re still investigating the collision and have yet to lay any charges.
