People opposed to a controversial quarry gathered in Rockwood Monday night at Rockmosa Community Centre. They were there to discuss their pending case against the proposed Rockwood quarry.

Although the Guelph-Eramosa Township council unanimously voted against the proposal, the issue is now before the Ontario Municipal Board.

In order to present their case, members of the ‘Concerned Residents Coalition’ say they need to raise around $400,000 dollars. So far the group has raised $100,000.

The group is run by volunteers and has been fighting the quarry proposed by James Dick Construction Ltd since 2013.

The location of the quarry is less than 1 kilometre east of Rockwood, on a 100 acre property on the 6th line near highway 7.

The main reason the group is against the quarry are environmental concerns.

Residents are worried that the quarry could impact their drinking water. Many of the surrounding communities and homes are on well water, and there is fear that a quarry could lower those water levels.

They are also concerned about the damage to homes and property value.

On March 1, 2016 the 2nd preliminary hearing will be before the Ontario Municipal Board.
