A family had to leave their home in their pyjamas early Friday morning after fire broke out in their home.

Firefighters were called to the home on Beverly Street in Brantford, near Colborne Street and the Wayne Gretzky Parkway, shortly after 2:30 a.m. They arrived to find flames shooting from the roof.

The family of four living inside the home was able to get to safety, but had to leave all of their possessions behind.

The Red Cross has provided them with a motel room and emergency funds.

Fire officials say damage to the home is substantial, with early estimates topping $300,000.

Given that most of the damage seemed to be around the home’s chimney and roof, they believe that the fire may have started in the fireplace.
