A young couple heading home from Christmas dinner in a horse and buggy were taken to hospital after a collision with an SUV.

Police say the couple left a Christmas gathering at a farm in Wellesley Township and began to head south on Herrgott Road.

Reaching the intersection at Geddes Street, north of Ament Line, the driver of the buggy turned left, into the path of an oncoming SUV.

The SUV hit the buggy on its front axle, throwing the male driver and female passenger of the buggy onto the roadway. Both the man and the woman were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the SUV were uninjured, as was the horse pulling the buggy.

The driver of the buggy, a 23-year-old Wellesley Township man, was charged with making an unsafe turn.
