Costco’s new store in west Waterloo will be open in time for the holiday shopping season.

According to the bulk retail giant’s website, the store – which is located on Erb Street, west of Ira Needles Boulevard – will open to the public in October.

Concerns about the level of vehicles in the area once the store opens led the City of Waterloo to call for a comprehensive traffic study as part of its approval process

The Ontario Municipal Board ruled last year that the study was not needed, and Costco could go ahead with its plans.

Construction crews have been working on Erb Street West this summer to build two roundabouts – one at the entrance to the Costco development and another at the entrance to the neighbouring landfill.

Officials with Costco have said that the store will bring about 200 jobs to the city.
