A high school teacher in Brantford has been arrested following a complaint of sexual assault.

Brantford Police say the male teacher was arrested Thursday without incident.

He teaches at a secondary school that is part of the Grand Erie District School Board.

He appeared in court Friday to face charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

The allegations were made by a male student, who told police about an alleged incident involving the teacher that took place within the past week.

A judge has placed two publication bans on the case.

One prevents the publication of information that may identify the teacher. The second prevents reporting of anything that took place during Friday’s court proceeding.

Dave Abbey, a superintendent with the Grand Erie board, told CTV News that the teacher remains employed by the board.

Parents of children at the school in question will receive phone and email messages about the situation, he said.

Police say they believe there may be additional victims in the case.
