A secret ballot vote is underway for nearly 500 maintenance workers at Toyota.

Unifor filed an application last week to unionize the employees.

Workers began casting ballots on Friday, and voting will wrap up on Monday.

Previous attempts to unionize all 8,000 workers at the Cambridge and Woodstock plants have failed.

This time around Unifor says it's applying for what is calls "one component" of the workforce. Normally manufacturing workers make an application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board as a single group, but Unifor is confident that the Board will allow the maintenance employees to unionize separately.

Results are expected to be announced late Wednesday afternoon.
