A 13-year-old girl is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle while cycling in Norfolk County.

OPP say they, along with firefighters and paramedics, were called to Concession 11 – between Waterford and Simcoe – shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for a report of a crash.

At the scene, they found that the girl had collided with a vehicle being driven by a 74-year-old woman. Both were travelling eastbound.

The cyclist was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with life-threatening injuries.

By Friday morning, her condition had been downgraded to serious but stable.

Police say she was not wearing a helmet, which they believe contributed to her injuries.
