The Wilfrid Laurier campus is on lockdown after the University received an internet threat.

All buildings are closed and all classes and meetings are cancelled until further notice.

Students, staff and faculty are advised to stay about from the campus until further notice.

“For precautionary measures, the campus will be closed to ensure the safety and security of staff, faculty, students and the community,” said Kevin Crowley, communications and public affairs director at WLU.

The university received a tip from Crime Stoppers indicating a threat to the school. WLU notified Waterloo Regional Police Services, and the campus was placed on lockdown at 6 a.m.

Police are working with Wilfrid Laurier University police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the RCMP to investigate.

The nature of the threat isn’t immediately clear, but Crowley said it is centred at the Science building at the corner of University and Bricker Avenues.

It is reading week at WLU, so the campus is not as busy as usual.

A spokesperson for the Waterloo Region District School Board tells CTV News that all nearby public schools are open. The University of Waterloo also remains open.
