‘Cozy’ may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of Waterloo, but a popular travel website says it’s one of the most applicable.
Expedia ranked Canadian cities based on their supposed coziness – as determined by Expedia users’ reviews of hotels in each city. Hotels with a lot of reviews mentioning things like fireplaces and comfortable pillows were judged to be more cozy than others.
The big winner was Emerald Lake, Sask., a regional park which is about 150 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
Tourism Saskatchewan’s website boasts of Emerald Lake's trees, skiing, fishing, playgrounds, boat launch, trailer park and ice cream store.
Waterloo came in second, with Niagara-on-the-Lake in third place.
Stratford was the other local city to make Expedia’s top 50, coming in at number 44.
Other Ontario communities on the list included Vaughan (10th place), Markham (14th), Leamington (25th), Oakville (26th), St. Catharines (29th), The Blue Mountains (31st), Sault Ste. Marie (33rd), Timmins (34th), and Hamilton (47th).
