Vintage Videos: Highlights from the CKCO archive

Broadcasting from Kitchener, Ont. since 1954, CTV Kitchener’s cameras (formerly known as CKCO-TV) have been at some of southwestern Ontario’s biggest moments.

For this Vintage Videos series, we’re taking a look at a the lighter side.

Check back each Thursday for a new video from our vault and some feel good nostalgia.

Here's some of what we've dug up:

  • Take a trip back to 1994 to see Elmira's last minute scramble to find Santa Claus a float for the community parade.
  • Raise a glass to the 1992 Oktoberfest opening ceremonies.
  • The OHL season is in full swing, so we travelled back to 2002 to see how then head coach Peter DeBoer felt about the upcoming season.
  • Runners lace up for the 1997 Terry Fox Run in Waterloo.
  • 1,600 competitors took part in the 1997 dragon boat races in Stratford.
  • Honk for the 2002 Shinerama fundraiser by students at Wilfrid Laurier University. Drivers got their cars cleaned for a good cause while raising money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
  • Revisit the 1999 Waterloo Busker Carnival. You’ll see a broadcaster turned straight-jacket escape artist, a caricaturist and plenty of cute kids enjoying the festivities.
  • We're going way back to the 1989 International Plowing Match and Farming Show in Essex County, hosted by CTV's very own David Imrie.

All the videos can be watched in the player at the top of this page.
