Police in Guelph are investigating after two suspicious fires overnight, but it is unclear if yet if there is any connection to three arson cases last month.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, police and firefighters responded to a fire at the back of a utility trailer connected to a vehicle on Kirkland Street.
There was minimal damage, but police are calling it a case of arson.
Around 4 a.m., emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire in a parking lot at a townhouse complex on College Avenue in the city's south end.
In that case one vehicle was destroyed before the fire could be extinguished and a second vehicle parked nearby was also damaged.
The vehicle that was destroyed had been vandalized at an earlier date and police believe the fire may be related to that incident.
Property damage is estimated at $4,000 to $6,000 in the second blaze, and an investigation continues to determine the cause of the fire, though police say it "does not appear to be natural or mechanical."
Guelph police say they will also be comparing evidence from these incidents to the fires in the Grange Road area.
Police are thanking the residents who reported Friday morning's fires quickly and say residents are encouraged to continue to be aware and report any suspicious activity.
