15-year-old Tyler Schwering died in a Hamilton hospital from injuries sustained last week after being hit by a transport truck on the Hanlon Expressway.

Schwering was struck last Thursday around 4pm shutting down the popular Expressway during rush hour. 46-year-old Amrik Mander of Hamilton was driving the tractor trailer that hit Schwering. Mander swerved to the left trying to avoid the teen but ended up side swiping another vehicle then striking the teen.

Schwering was taken to Guelph General Hospital with serious injuries then airlifted to a hospital in Hamilton.

The teen is from Fergus and was a student at Centennial CVI in Guelph. The school is one block from where he was hit. The Upper Grand District School Board and Centennial CVI do not have any comment. Grief counselors have been brought in to help students in need.
