The end of summer is only 12 days away, but Mother Nature isn’t quite ready to wind down.
Forecasters are predicting a Tuesday high of 33 C for Kitchener, which is equal to the hottest Sept. 10 ever measured – a record set in 1952.
Tuesday could also be the hottest day of this summer.
On July 18 – one day before a massive storm downed trees and power lines across southwestern Ontario – temperatures peaked at 32.8 degrees.
Tuesday’s peak temperatures are expected to occur mid-afternoon.
A cold front will move in Wednesday, dropping temperatures slowly but significantly by the end of the week.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has issued a heat alert for the City of Guelph as well as Wellington and Dufferin counties.
In Guelph, air-conditioned city facilities and libraries are open to the public.
An Environment Canada humidex advisory is in effect for much of the province.
