The Stratford Country Club is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, Stratford Police said Thursday.
A spokesperson for the police service declined to provide specifics about the nature of the investigation.
Meanwhile, club president Mark Straus tells CTV News the organization’s finances are in “dire” shape, with bankers demanding payments on the club’s mortgage and line of credit.
However, booked events like weddings and Christmas parties will take place as planned, Straus said.
Wednesday night, hundreds of club members attended a special meeting where they were provided with more details of the organization’s financial situation.
Leaving the meeting, multiple members said they were surprised at the high level of the club’s debt but believed a solution could be found.
The club’s website lists it as having 800 registered members for its facilities, which include a golf course, curling sheets and squash courts, as well as a restaurant.
