There’s trouble brewing at the Stratford Country Club.
Exactly what that trouble is hasn’t been made public, but club president Mark Straus tells CTV News the club is dealing with “financial difficulties.”
Club officials met with their bankers on Monday, he says, and more information about the challenges could come as early as next week.
Until then, the 800 or so members of the club are left to wonder exactly what is happening.
In addition to golf, the club offers curling sheets and squash courts – as well as a restaurant
Kathy Verhoeven stopped in at the restaurant for a coffee Tuesday, and said she was “stunned” to hear of fiscal problems at the facility.
“I think it’s an important club,” she said.
This isn’t the first time the 101-year-old club has faced financial challenges.
Newspaper reports show issues dating back to the 1980s, when a recovery program was introduced to help keep the club from going under.
