A bad smell coming from a Brantford house has led to the discovery of four snakes in the seemingly abandoned home – three of which died before they were found.

The home sits on Robertson Avenue, in the city’s Eagle Place neighbourhood.

On Sunday, Brantford Police say, a neighbour noticed an odour coming from the home and contacted its owner.

The owner entered the following day, and found that the home’s tenants appeared to have abandoned the property without any warning.

He traced the smell to three plastic containers, which police say were holding two dead pythons and one dead rattlesnake.

Police and the SPCA were contacted, and sent their own investigators to the house.

Those investigators found a fourth plastic container, this one holding a python which was still alive.

The python was taken to a local veterinarian.

The SPCA continues to investigate the apparent case of animal abandonment.
