Streets across Canada were a sea of pink as breast cancer supporters gathered for CIBC’s Run for the Cure.

About 2,500 people in Waterloo Region donned pink to help in the fight. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, 62 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day.

The annual event helps raise awareness and support for women who are currently battling the disease.

Breast cancer survivor Patti Creed says “I felt the need to give back and raise money.  Make sure that we have the care that I received.”

Organizers say more than $466,000 was raised this year.  The money will go towards screening, treatment and research.

The Wall of Hope has been around since the run began and on it are messages of victories and loses in the fight against breast cancer.

The first run was held in Toronto in 1992 and it has grown to be a fundraiser where over one million people in 59 Canadian communities take part.
