A man from Roseville, south of Kitchener, is dead after a single vehicle crash overnight.
Just before 12:30 Tuesday morning, Waterloo Region police were called to a crash on Alps Road near Highway 24A, southwest of Cambridge, in North Dumfries township.
A car had left the road and struck a tree along the shoulder of the road. Police believe speed was a factor in this collision and the car was completely destroyed.
Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says "It was a 2012 model vehicle, obviously a very new vehicle, part of the investigation is to have a safety inspection on the vehicle itself."
Matthew Robert Hartle, 25, of Roseville, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alps Road was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene and collected evidence.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash.
Police request any witnesses or anyone with information about this collision to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Branch at 519-650-7700 ext. 8792
