Police in two separate southern Ontario communities are investigating thefts of poppy donation boxes on Remembrance Day.

Norfolk County OPP say one such theft occurred between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Wrap It Up counter in the food court of the Simcoe Mall.

The box was later found discarded outside the mall – with the poppies still in place, but all the money having been taken.

Meanwhile, Brantford Police report a similar theft from a Boston Pizza restaurant.

Video surveillance did capture images of a man in his 20s with a baseball cap stealing the box, police say, but that man had not been identified as of Wednesday.

Anyone with information on either theft is asked to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
