Waterloo Regional Police have released photos of two people who may be potential witnesses in the case of Erin Howlett.
According to police, the man and woman may have “important information” regarding the case, but police did not call them suspects in Howlett’s death.
“We’re hoping that either the individuals themselves will come forward or someone who knows them will contact police and let us know who they are,” says police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.
Howlett’s body was found in the Grand River in north Kitchener earlier this month.
Police consider the death of the 28-year-old Elmira resident to be suspicious, but have yet to make any arrests and say there is no threat to public safety.
Howlett was reported missing a few hours before her body was found on July 5, but had not been seen by friends or family for some time prior to that.
A post-mortem examination and forensic testing on her body have been completed, but police are not releasing the results of those tests.
The photos released Monday were taken by security cameras at a Waterloo Region business in late June, according to police, and the two people pictured may or may not know each other.
“We at this point really have no information as to who the people are,” says Heinzel.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-650-8500 ext. 8642 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Howlett’s brother, Dane Howlett, says his family understands that it may take time to determine exactly what happened to Erin.
“Things aren’t as easy as what TV shows make it out to be,” he tells CTV News.
“There’s a lot of legwork involved in investigations like this. Answers don’t happen overnight.”
Fundraisers held for the Howlett family took in more money than was necessary to cover Erin Howlett’s funeral costs.
Dane Howlett says the surplus will be donated to Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region.
