The roulette wheel of road closures in Waterloo Region is set to spin again, with two busy stretches of road closing next week for LRT construction.
Wilson Avenue is expected to close to traffic Sunday, or sometime thereabouts, between Fairway Road and Kingsway Drive. Access for pedestrians will be maintained.
According to the Region of Waterloo, Wilson will be closed for about six weeks. During that time, the recommended detour for drivers is along Kingsway, Franklin Street and Weber Street.
Courtland Avenue is expected to reopen to two-way traffic before Wilson is closed.
Also slated to reopen next week is Queen Street at Duke Street in downtown Kitchener, which has been closed for several months.
Once that intersection reopens – likely sometime around next Wednesday – Frederick Street will close between Duke and Charles streets, including the intersection of Frederick and King Street.
This closure is expected to last until early October, with work at Frederick and Duke continuing into November.
The recommended detour around this closure is via Courtland, Queen and Weber.
Again, pedestrian access is expected to be maintained around the detour.
