Beloved boat, Theodore Too, partially submerged in Port Weller

A replica of a beloved Canadian character is in need of some help.

In a statement to Seaway Ship Watcher Network, the owner of Theodore Too, Blair McKeil, said the beloved tugboat took on water while tied up at the dock at the Port Weller Ontario Shipyards in St. Catharines.

McKeil said Theodore Too is now partially submerged and resting on the bottom.

“We are working on a refloating plan. It’s a very unfortunate event. Thankfully there were no people involved and no injuries,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, a statement was made on the ship's official social media accounts, reading in part:

"I am resting safely on my belly in the mud and my family in Ontario, has assembled a team of experts to carefully right and refloat me. They are working super hard to have me ship shape in time for the holidays. I will keep you posted on how things go!"

Theodore Too made headlines in 2021 when he left the Big Harbour in Halifax to tour ports as a champion of Canada’s marine industry.

Thousands of people lined up to get a glimpse and snap a picture with the distinct yellow tugboat.

Theodore Too now calls the Port of Hamilton home.

The ship is based on the CBC show, Theodore Tugboat.
