Two pickup trucks were stolen from the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex while their owners were attending the Fergus Truck Show.
Wellington County OPP say the thefts occurred Saturday, one between 6 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. and the other between 8:30 p.m. and midnight.
One of the stolen trucks belonged to Adam Pilon, who tells CTV News he was already annoyed that the weather delayed truck pulls and cancelled a concert at the show when he discovered that his truck wasn’t where he left it.
“Somebody that’s a professional, knows what they’re doing, got through the door, popped the ignition out and away they went,” he says.
They weren’t ordinary pickup trucks that were stolen.
Pilon estimates that he spent about $25,000 on upgrades for his truck and gave it daily care.
“I went around that truck with a Q-tip making sure there was no dirt on it. It was my all-time favourite truck,” he says.
“It’s not one that you’re going to see around every day, that’s for sure. It stands out.”
Pilon’s truck, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, has a lift kit, 20-inch chrome rims, large mud tires and a ‘Cummins’ sticker on the tailgate, advertising the Cummins diesel engine Pilon installed.
The other stolen vehicle is described as a 2002 Silverado, with a similar lift kit, rims and tires, as well as an ‘Oakley’ sticker and two white whip antennas.
Pilon says he’s afraid the trucks may be stripped and sold piece by piece.
