A new medical clinic has opened its doors in Cambridge. It's good news to the 4000 residents without a general practitioner. It's also relieving pressure on Cambridge Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room.

"In the last couple of years, combined with the shortage of family doctors, it's been a nightmare in the emergency room," says Dr. Deepa Takhar, one of the physicians leading the project. "My biggest hope is that the E.R. actually notices a significant impact."

There are six new doctors at the Franklin Blvd. clinic. All six are accepting new patients into their practice. New patients can expect a more modern waiting room experience. For instance, if the wait time to see a doctor is long, patients can leave, and will be sent a text message when the doctor is ready to see them.

The medical centre will also act as a walk-in clinic on weekends.

Doctors4Cambridge, a committee that recruits doctors in the area, says the new facility will hopefully draw more doctors to the region.
