A Japanese auto parts manufacturer has announced plans to expand into Brantford.
Mitsui High-tec plans to start construction next spring on a 103,400-square-foot manufacturing plant on Fen Ridge Court, off of Oak Park Road in Brantford’s west end.
Company president Yasunari Mitsui called Brantford the “perfect location” for his company’s Canadian expansion.
“After completing an extensive search throughout North America, we are confident that Brantford meets all our needs such as a highly skilled labour force and strong governmental support,” he said in a press release.
The company expects spend up to $20 million on the plant, and hire 50 people once it opens.
They’ll be put to work manufacturing motor cores for electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles.
Brantford Mayor Chris Friel said the company’s decision to locate in his city was a reflection of its location near highways and larger cities, “pro-business government,” and relatively low property values.
“We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with MHT,” he said in the release.
Mitsui High-Tech expects to spend another $20 million on Brantford after three years, eventually doubling the size of its facility.
