In the first race with no incumbent since the riding was created, Perth-Wellington continued to back the Conservative Party.

With 192 of 225 polls reporting, Conservative candidate John Nater had brought in 18,589 votes, ahead of Liberal candidate Stephen McCotter and the 15,701 ballots marked next to his name by that point.

Third place was held by NDP candidate Ethan Rabidoux, followed by Nicole Ramsdale of the Green Party, Irma DeVries of the Christian Heritage Party, and independent candidate Roger Fuhr.

Perth-Wellington was created in 2004 from parts of Perth-Middlesex, Waterloo-Wellington and Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey.

Its MP at the time was Gary Schellenberger, who had won a byelection in 2003.

Schellenberger went on to win each subsequent general election in Perth-Wellington, before announcing last fall that he would retire from office.

The riding is comprised of Perth County in its entirety, as well as the Minto, Mapleton and Wellington North portions of Wellington County.
